Diary Handbook—Unit 4 Final

The final project of unit 4 is a hypermedia-based diary handbook. The diary handbook is an aggregate of my memories in the past. However, it contains different sides of my personalities and experiences. The way of reducing other impressions from the past and extracting the memories from the diary is out of ordinary. As it reflects on my very own way of perceiving the surroundings, more interesting and peculiar characters, was developed in the diary. Different time of these record memory each responding to different moods and emotions I have for that particular moment, the diary has symbolically gathered my natures in images. It shows the weakness of my inner self, and my extroversions of liberal ideas through photographs, audio, and videos.
During the process making, I was wanted to create a maze-like layout for the web pages, and let my viewers follow the directions in randomness. Due to the limitations of time and skills, I had to come up with easier and more simple layouts. Instead of building up complicated webpages with all the hyperlinks to the sub web pages, I only put one hyperlink on each sub web pages; Meanwhile, the viewers would be able to go to every web page on the main web page. It’s more likely to say that I have already planned out a route in the maze of memory.
Through the study and research in this unit, I have enhanced the concept of using technology as a platform to shorten the distance between hearts. And I love the intimate interactions between the programmed web pages and users; the web pages deliver the experiences to the users and sharing feedbacks for each other as much as possible.
Border thoughts and process thinking(copied from previous ELP post):
My goal is to accomplish complicated life observations and secretly stories which relate to my personal diary within the web world. The explored stories in this project are small mundane daily reflections. But the nuances between reality and the stories pulls you into the realm of the dreamlike universe. Everything becomes unpredictable and unavoidable within this universe; however, it composes these independent daily lives as a whole. The possibilities extract from the combinations of theses stories create more realities that make sense, while you’re observing the reality in the altogether. In this project, the media that I use includes photographs, texts, and videos; regarding exploring non-linear narratives, the media are the windows of reaching my inner world of the diary. I am opening up the sides of my most ordinary thinkings and most original ones as well. The characters resemble in stones, clouds, water, puppets, flowers, or human figures; they are fluid realities which shuttle back and forth in the diary. These fragments of the diary will be pieced together by audiences; through following the hyperlinks, the viewers of my work trace after my mood with jumping around the web pages. Hyperlinks are seen as the switch buttons that leads my viewers to see different sides of my views. My idea of showing off the diary is wanted to bring people close to my world, walk into the scenes which I see, and to enhance our abilities of empathy. Through sensing the meaningful moments of these little “things,” they remind us to appreciate our surroundings and cherish slim hope. And that is what I wanted to deliver to my viewers.
