First I started in this location. My first sketch was too high up on the page, so there was no depth to the hallway. The lines didn’t meet the vanishing point, and it was very inaccurate.
Because I was sick the second trip to the museum, I went back by myself and took more time to fix my mistakes. I was really unhappy with my first spot so I moved to a more interesting hallway. This wing had a more interesting composition, and had a longer hallway that gave the drawing more depth. This time, I had a lot more knowledge after the mini critique and knew how to better go about the drawing. I learned a lot listening to the mini critique because a lot of the questions other people had with theirs gave me more direction the second time around. I went to the library Saturday morning and stayed until I finished all of my lines.
I wanted to use charcoal and pastel, but also wanted to keep the lines tight and precise. So, I mixed graphite pencil with some charcoal pencil, and pastel pencil.
I added my figure on the right ledge to balance the composition because it seemed heavy on the left side.
Overall I am pleasantly surprised with how this project turned out. I started extremely confused. During the first perspective lesson I had a little trouble grasping it. Then, I was still unhappy with the progress of the first library visit. But, after absorbing all of the feedback in the mini critique, I was able to go back to the library, start from scratch and complete a drawing I am really happy with.
