Museum of Repurpose
Our museum is the Museum of Repurpose. It will be arranged in a railroad style house structure, (walk through each room). There will be a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room, and closet. In each room, we will exhibit different commonly used objects that are made from another material that was being thrown away as trash. Along with functional items, we will also display artwork made from waste material. We are essentially redesigning garbage to be repurposed as household items/ art in an aesthetically pleasing way. Through this museum we hope to divert waste from the waste stream and repurpose materials that would otherwise be sitting in landfills, and polluting our planet. Our museum’s primary purpose is to inspire and spread the importance of sustainable art and design while making it available to everyone. We want to show that sustainability doesn’t have to be a luxury, and everyone can do something to make a small change. Making sustainable decisions can be simple, and we want our audience to see that there are easy and creative ways to repurpose everyday waste materials.
Because our museum will be in a house, we will also invite artists to stay in residency and create sustainable designs from materials donated to the museum, or materials of their choice. The artists in residency will then have their work on display in the museum. They can also offer workshops and lectures on sustainable design and art’s role in environmental issues.
