My own photos:

Drawing of fruit and watercolor of hand
I wanted to use photos of familiar places that resemble home to me and the contrast and connection between the two. I am from the small town of Oradell, New Jersey. It is extremely different than NYC in that it is a pretty traditional suburb. But, I’ve always felt at home in the city even before coming to school here. In my photoshop montage, I wanted to represent the two contrasting landscapes- open field/city skyline, while having the Path train connect the two in the center as my personal route connecting the two places. The bananas are placed to resemble a literal path, and there is one on each side showing that there are two paths home. I wanted to focus on the color pallet of reds, yellows, and greens.
I used the layer mask tool to cut the images onto one page. Then, to blend, I used the brush tool on the layer mask and changed the occupancy to fade the edges of the image. I repeated the banana and changed the direction by using the free transform tool. Over the entire image, I manipulated the contrast and saturation.
