Printing my story

The story I felt related to my life the most is “The Origin of Camas Roots” fromĀ Voices of the Wind. The story is about a tribe who needs help curing a sickness that is taking out all of their people. The Great Chief above hears their calls and sends a woman with the cure. She gives them a seed to a flower that will cure the disease and save the tribe.

I really like the idea of a beautiful woman appearing in the sky with the seed for a beautiful flower. This relates to my life because my mom taught me to ask saints for help growing up. Whenever I would lose something she’d tell me to pray to Saint Anthony to help me find it. We weren’t really religious but there was this sort of spirituality I grew up with and then adapted to my style. Now, I still believe in signs and assistance from a force beyond.

I manipulated my prints by using markers, colored pencils, and cutting apart then reconstructing two prints. I had some issues initially with wiping the right amount and I have a few underwiped prints as a result. However, I now have a better understanding of printmaking and I would like to try it again in the future.
