Artifacts

When I think of my home, I think of the house I’ve grown up in on Broken Bend drive. I think of the big Texas skies and it’s beautiful sunsets, and the everyday routine of driving to and from school. But what really defines me are the people I care about, my friends and my family. The people who have given me love, life, and endless memories.

This is an acrylic painting of a typical sunrise from a photo I captured on the drive to school. For me, driving is a peaceful time where I can be alone and sing my heart out. It’s something I will miss when I go to New York, because I know I won’t dare try to drive there.

This is another painting I did in gouache, and is a playful arrangement of my best friends using pictures from their finstas. This painting just expresses the personalities of my friends and reminds me of all the crazy, fun things we’ve done together.

This final artifact is a photograph taken from my Nani’s house of her and my Nana at their 50th anniversary. Not only does this represent my Indian heritage and the culture I have been influenced by, it represents my family and the deep connection I have with my Nani and later Nana. They were so hardworking and loving, and have opened me up to such a different point of view.
