For this assignment, I had create an abstract object that depicted a specific emotion, feeling or state of being using different shapes, textures, colors, and materials. First, I created 10 conceptual color sketches in order to get an idea of what kind of object I wanted to create and what feeling I wanted to convey. I used my inspiration from one of my previous projects to start off and then built it off of that. The feeling that I wanted to communicate was introverted. I don’t open up to people very fast until I’m comfortable with them. After sketching out my ideas, I decided to go with the seventh sketch on the second page, which was the spherical one made out of infinite signs and enclosed with a colorful sphere in the middle. I chose to make the object out of wire because I thought it would represent flexibility and in a way convey “caved in” because even though I am a reserved person in the beginning, I do open up as time goes by. And the colorful sphere in the middle was made out of sculpey(type of clay) and represented the different shades of my personality, when I open up to a person. In general, I think people assume that introverted people don’t have a interesting personality, but I disagree with that because once a person starts getting to know you, they realize that there is a world within that person that is very intriguing. Therefore, I chose the color purple for the sphere inside because in my opinion the shades/tints of purple are very distinct from each other, so that communicates the distinct qualities I have within me.
