Perspective-New York Public Library

THE ASSIGNMENT

First we discussed finding the vanishing points for 1 and 2 point perspective. We started doing sketches of hallways and buildings while trying to find the points of convergence. After several sketches as practice, we went to the New York Public Library to draw either a 1- point or 2- point perspective view with pencil and/or charcoal. During our trip to the New York Public Library, we also took photos for a digital photomontage project.

SKETCHES

I did some non-tonal hallway sketches to practice 1-point perspective. I also tried to sketch a building and my room to try 2-point perspective.

NYPL MONTAGES

For the digital part of this project, we used Photoshop and Illustrator to trace our photos and re-create a scene using perspective at the NYPL. After making a greyscale montage based on the photo we’d chosen, we learned about color harmony and how to include color in our montages. Finally, we did a color version based on our black and white montage. Mine uses tints, shades, and tones of violet and yellow.
