Course Reflection

In this course I learned a lot of new and vigorous skills. I have met with new materials and I learned how to use the equipment for the arts and design. On the other hand, it helped me to improve my craftsmanship skills. Throughout the semester, I faced with a lot of difficulties because everything was brand new for me. I was introduced with the Photoshop program and had my first computer design experience. It was very challenging to think, to create, generate ideas about a specific topic and use this new medium. Also, this new skill helped me design other projects for my other classes. My favorite part of this course was Bridge #4 which was our final garment designing project. For the first time again in my life I learned how to use a sewing machine. With my partner in this project, we went to a fabric store and chose several different materials for our garment, which reflects the personalities of the characters we created in our fairytales for the Integrative Seminar course. We created a concept and designed our garment accordingly. The outcomes of this project made me feel really glad. I learned how to use a glue gun and how to construct a 3D shape from foam core. This class gave me the chance to work collaboratively with others. After this course, I will use all of this information and new skills for my further projects at Parsons and during my future career as well. I am a Strategic Design and Management student, so I want to deal with both creation and business aspect of design in the future. Basically, this course helped me as a preview for my design career in Parsons. The challenges I had through this semester will create benefits during my education life.
