The pictures above are the inspiration for my carte de visit and my own CDV.
A carte de visite is a 2.5 x 4 in. photograph printed on thick paper. They were very popular through the 1850s and 1860s. Many men and women of high status gave these CDVs out to friends and families. Some of the images taken were quite glamorous. In my Fashion Studio glamour was one the key concepts that were studied, so all the students were asked to make our own. Each student was asked to find an inspiration and do a modern interpretation. I loved Anna Held’s CDV because of the enormous flowers she had in the background and her hairstyle. I put my own design aesthetic into my CDV by creating paper flowers out of magazine paper.
