I hope to be a fashion designer one day or at the very least work in the fashion industry. In my Fashion Studio class we discussed the importance of brand. Our assignment was to incorporate ourselves into our future brand’s hang tag and business card.
At my time at Parsons I will decide the type of company I hope to run; the demographic I aim to reach; and the design aesthetic I want my brand to represent. This is the first project where I am explored my brand. My future brand aesthetic is not fully developed. At this time, I believe that MAORU will have an urban feel; edge; and femininity that other brands do not. I wanted an old New York grunge feel in my business card so I chose a picture where I am standing in front of a graffiti wall. I also wanted to have elements of fantasy and edge in my hang tag so I created wreaths at the top and the bottom of the hang tag. The wreaths are actually photographs of paper flowers that I made combined in Adobe Illustrator.
If I am going to start a company I want to name it MAORU. MAORU is significant to me because it is my Chinese name that I was given at the orphanage in Mao Ming, China. It reminds me of my roots and where I have come from.
