My first few weeks of living in New York City were interesting. Many of my professors wanted us to create projects that reflected our feelings towards our new urban environment. In my Drawing & Imaging class we were asked to take pictures around the city that we felt were truly urban. I was drawn to the telephone booths; bikes; fire escapes; and newspaper stands. We then were asked to create a landscape using our photographs. I cut out each object on Adobe Illustrator and collaged them together to create my Urban Fragment piece. I believe that cities are gorgeous and I enjoy their energy. I did not want to create a piece of artwork where the objects I took photographs of were completely masked in the new art piece. I created a black and white image first and then one in color. I chose to use various shades of purples and yellow in my color piece as tribute to some of my favorite comic book artists’ styles.
