For the mind mapping exercise I chose to contrast the smells and sounds of Portland, OR and New York City. I want to capture the essence of walking down the streets where I’m dorming and my commute to school each day. As for what I remember from Portland, I miss the smell of the fresh, crisp air, the smell after it rains and the lush feeling of the city as a whole. I could hear the freeway and trains in the distance and crickets at night, but more often then not, just quietness. I could smell coffee and bakeries across town, and more recently (since the legalization of marijuana in Oregon) the smell of weed – everywhere.
