For our final NYC Edutainment Image project, Carolyn and I decided to focus on the Meatpacking District. Because of the modernity and the elegance of the this area, we decided that we want to represent the MPD’s image in our project and keep it as contemporary, clean and as simple as possible. And so, after several ideas and brainstorms, we agreed on coming up with 3 different guides to the most important aspects of the Meatpacking District. One of the guides would focus on the artistic scene of the Meatpacking District, the other would focus on the nightlife including restaurants and bars, while the third focuses on the fashion and the clothing stores found all around the district. We conducted a thorough research of the places that we should include in all three guides. We later visited each and every site in the MPD and took quality pictures of the places that could be included in the guides. Along with a small paragraph of research of each place, we set it up in a template on InDesign and made it look as professional as possible. As for the entertainment part of the project, we decided to include a cross-word puzzle at the end of each guide that sums up all the information researched. It included general questions about the Meatpacking District itself, along with questions about the nightlife, the art and the fashion. By doing so, we put the viewer in a position where he/she must go through all 3 booklets and learn the information in order to be able to solve the puzzle, which creates the perfect “Edutainment” project.
