Final Project Proposal

After visiting Wynwood Walls in Miami, I was very interested in the intriguing work of Peter Tunney. He creates massive mixed-media collages with simple shapes or words as the foreground, and the collage itself in the back. Tunney creates very ironic and patriotic (all American) artworks, whether it is found in the background collage itself, or with the words he would choose in the foreground. I automatically knew that i wanted to create something along the lines of Peter Tunney’s work.

Because of Tunney’s context and messages behind his pieces, I also wanted to create something that I could relate back my own region and my home. The first idea was to narrow it down to my home Jordan. The background could be a collage of images that portray the beauty and the culture of Jordan. As for the foreground, I thought I would paint a huge Jordanian flag that covers the whole canvas. By doing so I would twist the meaning Tunney usually tends to have when it comes to his artwork, yet still using the technique and the overall look. The second idea however, would be having a general collage of the whole Middle East. Unlike Tunney’s ironic and humorous artwork, the collage will portray the authenticity and the old culture of the Arab world, that has recently been distorted. In the foreground, I would write a word or a quote that will be able to show this sort of authenticity. As for the third proposal, the collage will be the same, but the word or the saying would be written in Arabic. This way, the piece itself would be an expressive representation of the Middle East, and truly speak for the culture of the Arab World.
