About

This course is an advanced studio for students to develop more complex projects within a specific domain of media design. Students will complement the historic and theoretical readings with their own research, and will develop a larger independent project along their own areas of interest. Emphasis is on critical thinking, iterative design methodology, and synthesis of research, design production and presentation.

The first third of the semester will focus on narrative principles, regardless of media or genre: character, tension, voice, POV and transformation. Weekly projects will be assigned to encourage experimentation and collaboration, working from observational research. The second third will focus on iterative process towards an independent story idea and the craft of developing concrete, memorable narrative. The final third will be focused on the production of projects, adapting to the needs of the class.
