Seminar Visual Culture Studio Project #1

In this digital collage, I wanted to contrast the different ways visual culture can function within our society. On the bottom, I chose to add part of  Stefan Lochner’s Last Judgment. This represents how images created by higher up institutions, such as the Catholic Church, have been used to manipulate people and create fear (of things such as the idea of going to hell), in order to gain support and money. On the other hand, right above this image are television broadcasted snapshots of the first moon landing. I felt this was in direct contrast with the image of the last Judgment because this shows an instance where visual culture is being used to inform the public in an unmotivated way, what is actually going on within the world.
