Create a contour line sketch of a portrait, then recreate it using any linear material, cardboard, and wire. Post your photos on your Learning Portfolio with a reflection.
From this assignment, I learned that as artists, the outcome of our work heavily is influenced by our choice of materials. The material can completely change the look of our idea, so we must be careful and thoughtful in the process.
My favorite was with the wire, that gave the portrait a quirky look, almost like one of my favorite movies Coraline. On the other hand, the cardboard and plastic looked more crafty, but were still a good experience to work with. Especially without glue, we are forced to be creative.
Likewise, it is not as simple to bring to life something 3D as it is in a drawing. I had trouble making the material “stay” or bend the way I wanted to. I ended up realizing that it would be best to just let the material move the way it does, and myself to work around that.
