Research/Traditional seating/dining history across cultures:

  1. Chinese traditionally eat at round tables
    1. more convenient to share dishes with others
      1. echoes the lazy Suzy
      2. roundness=unity

  1. In Japan, meals are traditionally held on a tatami floor on a low table
    1. customary during tea ceremonies and traditional events
      1. kneeling during formal situations

  1. In traditional Iranian restaurants, people sit at a large low table lined on Persian rugs with cushions in a circle

  1. In Western cultures, a rectangular table is more common as plates are individualized
