Product Design pt.1

The second project of the program was all about product design and it was titled ‘Thing from the Future’. For this project, we had two small field trips – one to the Cooper-Hewitt Museum and the Ramallzee exhibit that was held near the school. I really liked both the exhibits and one thing that stood out for me from both the exhibits was that in the Ramallzee exhibit, I loved how he used trash to create various artworks and each of artwork of his was unique in it’s own way. In the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, I lived the second floor – the one where they did artwork related to our senses especially I loved the artworks where they linked the smell to a particular situation. This one exhibit also had a strong influence on my product, but I’ll mention that later.

But before we began designing our product, we played a small game where we were given a few cue cards which mentions an object, a terrain and so on. And we were asked a product based on these cards but set in the the future, therefore my initial idea for a product was a ‘Bottle Of Memories’ – one where you can store your memories and reminisce them whenever you want to.

But then we were asked to work more on it, my product slightly diverted. I decided to create a spray that helps you boost your mood as it helps you recall all the happy memories you’ve had in your entire life. The second version of the product was influenced by what I saw at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum.

Here is the initial idea/sketch of my product:

After doing more detailed sketching, this is what I ended up with (a rough idea of my product):

These are the final sketches of my product design:

On one page is the design of my product, while the other showcases the mechanism of the product in action.
