Paper project – Rock paper recycle

ROCK . PAPER . RECYCLE

OVERVIEW:

Our idea for the paper project was to completely transform how people look at paper. Therefore we created a “company”, called Rock.Paper.Recycle, that produces rock-like objects, made out of recycled paper.

We created 4 different stones as an example. Each rock could be used for different purposes, and the client could order any other shape as well as the design, the writing and the colours, in relation with the purpose they would like it to have. To show this, one of the rocks that we created had a specific function which is, a chopstick holder. the chopstick holder is red and says “chopsticks” in Chinese.

Our policy follows environmentally friendly products made  with organic, handmade, and recycled primary materials, such as : paper, water and water. The only energy that we used is the oven, in which we put the rocks for about an hour.

PROCESS:

The process was simple:

  1. We started by mixing recycled paper with warm water, until the paper was in tiny pieces

    2.   Then we added flour to the mix, and mixed it with our hands, until it created a sort of paste

3.  We took out all the water, and created the shapes that we later put in the oven for about 2 hours, on a 160 degrees Celsius.

4.  When we took the paper shape out of the oven, they were solid rock, then we painted over them with different designs and colours for each shape.

5. Finally, we fin iced off by polishing the rocks with transparent nail polish to give it a shine.
