the image

By searching about Rei kawakubo, I find this photography by Tim Walker in a 2018 blog post in Vouge. The photography captures three young women looking desperate, but having a painted fake smile on their faces. The bright colors of mixed media garments filled with patterns seem to provide abundance to the models, however, the contrasting color of black smile face and their attitude seems to tell another story of the ionic society.

the article

The article that includes these photos is discussing some feelings of Rei kawakubo in her 45 years of career in fashion. In the article, she explained” I enjoyed nothing… Recently, I haven’t been much-enjoying anything about work. I have been doing it for so long that the enjoyment has gone out of it…” However, she still stayed in the industry during 2018 to cultivate young professionals and workers in Comme des Garçons.

the photographer

The photo was shot by Tim Walker and styled by Kate Phelan. Tim Walker was a Brish photographer that studied photography and start shooting for fashion magazine such as Vogue in his 20s ( 25 years old ). He was also into films, where he shot works such as ‘The Lost Explorer’ and more. His work really captures a fantasy in a clear image associate with the fashion story, and he even had books that were out for sale as well.

These photos in the Vouge blog post are works that considered a more still version that focuses on the figure and garment itself. which I thought was different comparing to the movable qualities of his other photos.

The relationship between fashion and photography seems to be highly bonded, and I really enjoy watching how images can shape the world of fashion.
