In the case of Jussie Smollett’s staged hate crime, he exploited several cultural systems as a commodity. He aimed to make some money and in doing so had himself beaten and passed as crime against homosexuality and Black people. Jussie Smollett exploited the support of the LGBT community and the African community system in a challenge to the same systems that allowed the killers of Emmett Till to walk free for monetary gain.
