Paper Work

Materials:

Paper Towel

Drawing Paper

Copy Paper

Watercolor

Acrylic Paint

Liquid Glue

Process:

Base of the Pouch-

I painted strips of paper towel with different color watercolors then left it flat to dry. Once dry, I glued the strips of paper towel onto drawing paper to reinforce opacity. I cut the paper into smaller strips to mimic the color swatches of fabric. I glued all my paper strips in order onto another sheet of paper that I rolled into a tube.

For the sides of the pouch I cut circles of brown paper towel and roughly glued it to create a fabric-like texture.

Zipper-

I painted a strip of copy paper silver, then cut it into smaller rectangles that I glued onto a piece of paper painted black with acrylic.

Handle-

Rolled up paper towel glued together with watered down liquid glue and colored black with ink.

Reflection:

If I were to adjust my process, I would remove the multiple layers of paper used in creating the base of the pouch. This makes my pouch look stiff and prevents it from forming a proper circular shape. To achieve greater similarity, I could have used the a wider varieties of colors that corresponded to the real pouch instead of repeating the same three colors. Regarding the zipper, I intentionally chose to make it silver instead of black to make it stand out. However, I wish I would have spent more time cutting the rectangles into equal sizes. For the sides of the pouch, I also would fold the paper just as the fabric seems to be sewn.
