The second project we do in Space/Materiality class is to create a Haptic Archive. We were asked to take a soft pencil and some paper to capture the 3 dimensional textures of surfaces around us. For my archived, I forttaged surfaces I found interesting in my own apartment. I started with the kitchen as I love to cook. Then I wandered around the hall way area and the the living room.
The number on the lower right corner of each fortage is referring to theĀ greyscale in the center.of the archive. I have picked the most dominant shade identified on the fortage.
I really enjoyed the process of making this Haptic Archive because it provided me another way of exploring my own apartment. Before this project, I have never realized how many different textures of the walls in my apartment have. My choice of merely staying in the apartment was also influenced by the SOuth Korean artist introduced in class, Do-ho Suh. He once covered his entire apartment with white paper and forttaged it. I found it very interesting so I decided to do the same to the place I have only lived for a month.
