Fashion Making: Fiction & Reality

Our first project for this class was based on our interpretation of our reality, and our fantasies – all put together in a 2D medium.

To do so, we took 30 pictures of our own respective ideas. In my reality, I had pictures of myself in a natural look, my hands, my keys, my paintings and collages, CELINE campaigns, food… All of them representative of the person I believe I am: a warm and quiet soul in love with the natural beauty, the natural colors, art, and food – who likes to create compositional and unexpected art. On the other hand, my fiction was full of pictures of all of the above but in a more creative and nicer way. They were, I believe, a prettier and more appealing way to show my world – one I wish I could show myself.

Thus, when the moment of mixing my reality and my fiction came, I wanted to do it from the perspective of a third persona: A fictional character, living my fictional life, but portraying it in my “reality style” – through my “reality” eyes and art. For this reason, I created a series of 5 pictures that show the same girl getting dressed up with class and elegance. I also included my passion for food and collage by including food motives to the pictures and creating a series of compositions out of them. This is the first interaction of my reality with my fiction.

The pictures are kept inside zip bags as a continuation to my passion for food, and as a metaphorical way to portray how my fictional life, despite interacting with my “reality”, still remains untouched – seen as a far away life that I can picture, but cannot touch.
