What I Saw, Remembered, Dreamed – Project

My project for this assignment is a fictitious gun made of found materials like cardboard and La Croix. It consists of stacked layers of cut cardboard and a can of La Croix, and is decorated with pieces from the La Croix box and a piece from the can as the “sight.” It was inspired by my memories of walking in the streets of Hong Kong late night and seeing a large amount of trash in the streets of New York. I came up with a narrative of a character who assembles a gun from the trash to defend himself in the nights of New York.

I initially struggled to start this project because I thought the task was very vague and broad. I began with a visual mind map starting with the materials I have collected from the past week. While constructing the actual gun, I didn’t have time to carefully measure out all the components to stack and create extra pieces. When I was done, I thought it looked pretty empty and unfinished, so I tried to add extra touches with the box pieces and the can piece to incorporate a fully comical appearance.

Comments:

“appears as if it’s 3D printed”

“composition of the gun seems surreal and fictitious”

“project is humorous and funny”

“maybe make the entire gun out of La Croix boxes”
