BRIDGE 1 CRITIQUE

- DESCRIBE the piece using noticing skills.
There’s a large variety in terms of composition. There’s use of 3-D elements. This is the first piece we have seen with text so far. All four pieces are the same size. There is a lot of intent with the way you displayed and hung these pieces.
- ANALYZE the piece using the Elements and Principles of Design
There is an effective use of text in your pieces. There is a lot of color that is saturated. There isn’t a unity of color within each one but they all take their own. All of the pieces bleed off the page. In terms of use of materiality, this is mixed media.
- INTERPRET: Practicing Bohemian Arising/ Self Noticing:
These pieces really mind me of postcards. Your words were spirals, wires, concrete jungle, destruction. I think the essence of this piece is representational. In each piece you are relating words, or imagery to something meaningful to yourself. The emotion I receive looking at all these pieces is nostalgia. I feel like I have seen these postcards or even sent them and this is me looking back on past experiences.
- NOTE TO THE ARTIST:
I would tell the artist that I love the mixed media in your pieces. I really appreciate the intent and meaning behind why you hung your pieces with the wrapped wire. I find it very creative and “going the extra mile”. I would encourage you to try to look at layering techniques with different paper or other materials.
