LP11: Construction Week 2

For the second ensemble, I did a prototype on the mannequin, which was not my actual size, but I still wanted to see how to turn the design into a real piece of wearable. Thus I utilized pins to construct the first prototype.

After I finished pinning every piece together, I turned them into the pattern, since initially, I thought there might be a chance I could wear this piece if I added an inch or two, which I did add. However, the piece was still quite small, hence I added more inches to enlarge it.

After I had enlarged my patterns, I made another prototype. This time the model was a similar size to me, thus it was ok to use the mannequin as the actual guide. I also did not want to waste my taffeta, I did not want to ruin it before I did every experiment with prototypes.

The constructing process of the actual piece was similar to the prototype, except I had to hand sew on the wire piece to the ensemble since the industrial machine would leave weird stitches, and wires do not tend to work with industrial machines. Moreover, sewing on the zipper was difficult this time, since somehow every thread was coming out, and it kept ripping apart, thus, I had to sew them on more than once. For this time of construction, my time management was terrible, since I wanted to finish everything at once in the sewing studio for my studio and soft structure class, which was impossible. It made me tried and messed my mind, which worsen the sewing technique. However, I knew I had to end, thus, I finished them up in separate times. I wanted this piece to be done as soon as possible, thus I was very focused on sewing, thus I ignored the fact that I need to take process photos.
