Concept Statement

In order to begin my book, I had to spend time and work with my group which included Vic and Greg. In order to learn about each other’s interest, we spent a day together going to botanical gardens, cafes, museums and got mexican food. While walking around Alphabet City, we discovered each others favorite colors, cafe drinks, hobbies, and even music styles. The book I’ve created includes photos of our time together with each person photoshopped to look as if they are a silhouette and the lines of the story are written in white ink in the silhouette. The storyline is about two people traveling to New York City to live their dream of living in the city but they’re still looking for friends because they are lost in the big city alone. They eventually meet each other after seeing one another at spots they commonly go to such as cafes, rooftops and botanical gardens. While making the book, I had to work on photoshop to get the idea I visioned. I got my inspiration from one of the books our class looked at while trying to get ideas for our books. The book that inspired me was about the woman who slept with many men and wrote about the experience. I didn’t use that story in particular but the structure of that book caught my eye with how the written part of the story was worked around the outline cut out of the characters in the story and that eventually helped me create my look for my story.
