Soft Structure Project 3 Reflection

For project 3, I had the opportunity to manipulate and apply my previously made pineapple skin swatches to a space. My first swatches for project 1 are woven and mimic the color pineapple patterns.

For project 2, I experimented with the colors and texture of a pineapple by working with the shibori dye technique, embroidery, and three-dimensional boiling techniques.

For project 3, I utilized my sources and worked on Adobe Photoshop to alter the appearance and texture of the swatches I already had created.

Through Adobe Photoshop, I applied neutral colors to my current swatches to provide a sense of comfort within the space.

• Throughout project 3, I learned how to digitally apply physical objects and patterns such as my swatches to realistic photographs of a space I created prior to the assignment.
• I enjoyed joining two unrelated assignments to create a space where comfort and support can be seen just through a photo. I enjoyed altering my swatches and creating a color scheme by adjusting colors and applications to achieve my concept of comfort in a space.
• I found selecting the proper elements to alter challenging because the model I designed prior to this assignment was created with only two materials but I overcame this challenge by applying texture through the effects offered on Photoshop and by modifying the color choices used.
• If I were to change my renderings, I would create more seating throughout the space and manipulate the swatches more by layering.
• A classmate whose work I enjoyed is Jane’s peanut swatches because of the detail and craftsmanship of each swatch. She put a lot of thought into each design and I enjoyed how she used scaled parts of the peanut and focused on achieving and mimicking the details of it with different techniques.
