Attached above are the sketches and notes that I took during our class trip to the Met. Those pages answer questions 1,2, 4, 5 and 6. Question 6 is addressed in my analysis during the ten minute exercise. The answer to the remaining question is typed below.

3) Some critics called the Met’s “Genji” exhibition feminist because of its focus on the female author rather than the predatory male protagonist. I am not completely sure if I agree with this statement. While I do think that the exhibit focuses on the author, I also think that it highlights some of the more problematic parts of the story in some of the illustrations chosen to be inn the exhibition. For the Met to showcase these in a praising matter is not feministic or good in my opinion. I struggle to understand how this story is so acclaimed even though there are so many issues with the main male character and his behaviors. Perhaps I am just missing something though because I have not read the full story but am only knowledgable to few of the storylines.

B) I have a few directions that I might want to go in for the Bridge #3 project, so I think I will have to go back the Met in order to tighten my ideas and narrow in on one for the project. I believe that I will most likely be exploring Dutch paintings and their chaotic still lives and intense lighting, or the use of gold and it’s meaning to different regions or cultures around the world. I believe that I could make an interesting photography editorial out of either of these ideas and therefore just need to find the one that I can push further.
