Museum of City

Museum of City

me in the future

I think the Museum of City is definitely an inspired space. I learned that this museum was built and designed as a museum, so the structure is well considered. For the exhibition Future city lab, I think it is a really creative show. It utilized different media to let people take part in this exhibition. For example, the big screen shows our live figure in the future city, I feel really involved in this big city when I experienced it. I especially like the interview videos in this exhibition, even though it lasts for 25 mins, but I think every second is so interesting, this interview includes people from the different area of New York City and in different gender and ages. They tell their stories in New York City. I still remembered one woman said: We always think New York is ta home to chase dreams, but about people who born in NY? How they chase their home of dreams when they already in it. I think this is a very interesting contradiction. It makes me think as a dreamer chaser in New York City, what is my next step.
There is another exhibition that really touches me: Interior Lives. Which is a photography exhibition of Chinese New Yorkers. You can never feel these pictures are taken in in NY city, they are just so different with city’s image in our mind. These pictures are so real, and they reflect the huge class difference in this city. These pictures remind me of  a quote that I read before: “Chinatown still maintains the same look as in the memory of Chinese immigrants who came to American decades ago.” China town is like a small city in New York. It is different, but it is real.
I think one character that I like most about this museum is that it keeps the true look of this city. That is the reason people feel engaged when they visit, and we will think about what we should do for this city as inhabitants.
