Artist Statement：
Childhood is the age span ranging from birth to adolescence. As the age become older, the most precious gift was the memories from our childhood. Childhood is a period started from our birth to adolescence. Childhood usually consists of two stages: preoperational stage and concrete operational stage. The childhood is really important to every people, because various childhood factor could affect a person’s attitude formation. Base on it, the memories in people’s childhood is valuable for each of people.
The wood project here is about our human body, the inspiration of my project is mental body which is memories of childhood. I am a timid people since I was really young. At my age, most children like to play different roller coasters, but I was really afraid of it. All of the roller coaster makes me feel not safe even too crazy for me. At this time, carousel gives me a lot of warm and safety feeling. Besides these, when I play it, my mom always waits me at same location and wave hand every time when I see her. This make me feel happy and enjoyable. When I become older, I only could see her in rare time, but those memories carry most of my happiness memories with my mom.
Finally, I decided to make this wood carousel. During the research on internet, I search different type of carousel, but my favorite piece is original horse carousel. In this way, I started to use cardboard make a model, after that, I started to draw each piece in the wood and use the machine to cut each of pieces down. And use the mortise and tenon joint structure it. Finally, my wood carousel was finished. I choose to not add the color, because I want to keep wood’s original color, even the color was not the same, but it is just like our memories for childhood, might be some of people’s childhood wasn’t perfect, but it always the best memories we have and it grow up with us.
