This assignment consisted of various steps. First we created a contour drawing of a live model, then we had to choose seven historical or cultural patterns that we felt connected to or admired, after, we had to implement the patterns into our contour drawing using illustrator and the blob tool, and to finish, add color to the patterns. I decided to use my own contour drawing, scan it and open it in illustrator for this project, instead of using the pen tool. While I was choosing for my patterns, I chose patterns from countries that I felt connected to or patterns that just stood up to me: El Salvador, Greece, Japan, Mayan, Russian and Egyptian. I focused on a single element that inspired me from each pattern and created my own. I used the paint brush tool, rotation tool, reflect tool and varied my paint brush strokes to create organic yet geometric patterns. After creating my patterns, I had to insert the patterns into the contour drawing. I did this step, by using the blob brush tool. My pattern man turn out to be very abstract and organic, which I liked, this is why, when choosing color for my pattern man, I opt for an earthy pallet, using the vivid and muted complementary option. I really enjoyed the process of this project, because I became more familiar with illustrator and learned how to create my own patterns which is something I could use in the future or in my other classes.
