I was born in Miami, Florida, but grew up in El Salvador. El Salvador, is a beautiful third world country located in Central America. It is extremely small and underdeveloped and has a lot of poverty, however, it has beautiful green fields, mountains, volcanoes and a lot of biodiversity. For me, seeing these beautiful bridges, monuments and skyscrapers is amazing yet shocking. Shocking because you don’t see buildings and infrastructures like these in El Salvador. So this is why I took these pictures of the Brooklyn bridge, the statute of liberty and the Manhattan skyscrapers.

Passing by these infrastructures on the circle line field trip was shocking, yet inspiring.  I am so grateful with The New School that Sustainable Systems class is a required class for freshman/junior. As designers, and the future generation of artists, architects, engineers, it is important for us to know the impact our designs will have on the environment/people/world. Having said this, in these pictures you can see recycled water bottles/ plastic and garbage. As Jenifer said in the trip, this is not garbage, it’s a resource, a resource, that us as the future designers of this city can use to create and improve. Seeing the sewage system and learning about it is also a resource, because we can start designing having that knowledge.
