For this assignment, we were assigned a partner, mine was Story Si, and we had to create a 3-D Hybrid Avatar that would portray our distinct characteristics. We used a variety of materials including: wood, thread, wire, paper, glue, and objects we bought.
First, we decided to use wood for our base “body” because we wanted to make our Avatar out of recycled materials and the wood we used was recycled form the workshop, we chose the pieces and glued them together to make a shape and body of a horse. This was to represent, my love for horses.
We divided the Avatar in half, one side portraying Story’s characteristic and the other side portraying mine, but at the top, we are joined by the balls of color paper. These “balls” of color paper represent all of our dreams and ideas we want to create, they are delivered and created through our hands, this is why the hands are also colorful, because they represent each of our dreams and ideas. The hands are holding a mannequin that we made with wire, to represent our desires of becoming successful fashion designers.
The circle with thread and with the pieces of a mask represent Story’s super power of being transparent, and the wand represents my super power of having a magic and and being able to create whatever I want. We also cut and pasted pieces of airplane tickets because we both enjoy traveling, and we want to travel and explore the world. The Pig that is located in the lower circle, represents Story’s “year” animal, he was born in 1995 and it is the year of the Pig, so he decided to paste a Pig to represent himself.
