“Travelling” by Grace Paley is a very thought provoking essay about segregation in the early 1900s. Paley takes the reader back to a time where racism was prevalent throughout the United States, and where it was shown everywhere, even on public transport. She tells stories about times where her mother and herself puts their differences aside to help people of color when they were being ridiculed for simply the color of their skin. Paley’s work of literature brings a call to action to all of us still today to remember to stand up for others in the face of prejudice, and reminds us all that small acts can even mean a lot to someone who has been through adversity.
