Project in Space/Drawing – Virtual Reality

In this VR Project we started off with creating ‘baseline’ ideas for how we wanted to approach the theme in a virtual 3D space. They mainly stemmed from the production of music and how it can create a strong feeling and how we could represent this in a space, to build a sort of atmospheric world in which we could envelop ourselves in.

Here were some of the preliminary sketches:

In the following week, after our feedback, we decided to actually get to work with trying our hand at the equipment, setting it up, testing brushes and the toolkit, all in all it was mainly to get a feel for what our limits and possibilities were with Google Tiltbrush. We decided that working to make multiple ‘worlds’, both from our own interpretations of the music my partner Sofie created, we would most effectively convey space and drawing combined.

This is a recording of the final works, recorded in the manner that we showed it to the audience on a large screen in a dark room. I would walk through each world, having choreographed the movements before hand, to give the viewers a strong impression of what we envisioned when making the worlds. This way, when the audience gets a chance to try the headset on themselves, they can understand better what the concept is and how the piece itself is supposed to be viewed. But mainly, it’s to show the lack of boundaries in VR and how you can let your imagination run with these tools.
