Drawing and Imaging: Final

For my final project I decided to visit Grand Street along with Columbia University. Both completely opposite places. As I walked around both locations one of the main things I noticed was the differing color pallets, Columbia consisted of mostly neutral tones while Grand Street was riddled with neon signs and bright colored posters. Another thing I noticed was the environment, Columbia was quite, studious, and preppy while Grand Street was vibrant, hustling, and welcoming. These two factors observed heavily influenced my final product.

The process presented some challenges, one of which being a central idea I had but I had no idea how to execute it. After some conversation a idea was solidified which presented my second challenge, how to print the work and then how to do some sort of hand done work on top. Both challenges were solved by talking to peers and my professor. My biggest concerns came out in the process of putting together the final piece, I have a bad habit of judging something while it is still being created which is unfair to the work because it isn’t at the full potential yet.

The final product turned out way better then I could have hoped. The idea behind it was to combine aspects from both locations. Using a hallway of the Dean’s office I added elements that to me really defined Grand Street. Bringing the two worlds together really created contrast. I was most proud of the extent of the presence of each location. Nether was too overwhelming the balance made it clear the point behind each thing digitally placed or collaged.
