TEN BILLION

Deforestation. Desertification. Species extinction. Global warming. Growing threats to food and water. Were the main topics that were mentioned in the movie Ten Billion.  As the population continues to grow, our problems will increase. And this means that every way we look at it, a planet of ten billion people is likely to be a nightmare.

I believe all of these problems affect one another, and the problems become bigger and bigger as it keeps affecting one another.

I know it’s easier said than done, however, I think some things can be preventable. Deforestation, for example, these are done by people, on purpose. If there was a stricter law on big cooperates that has a business related to trees, this could help fewer deforestations.

  • the law could implement a maximum amount of trees companies can cut within a year or they have to grow double the amount that they cut, this way there won’t be as fewer deforestations.

DICKSON DESPOMMIER

I found the guest talk very interesting, I really liked his idea where we can all grow verticle farms on new buildings from now, and eventually, all the buildings would have verticle farms within them. I think this was very inspiring, how he mentioned we didn’t need to fix existing buildings, we just need to start from now and in 10-20 years we can see the change. This made me realize how impossible changes within our systems/society can still change. It’s not too late.
