For my project, I would like to research the environmental effects of the livestock production system, including deforestation, greenhouse gas emission, and ocean pollution. As an animal lover and a vegetarian, I am very interested in learning more about the many aspects of the livestock production system as well as possible solutions to the the issues surrounding it. The harmful effects that this system causes have remained unknown to the vast majority of the public since their emergence, and I believe it is important for everyone to know what they are giving their money to when it comes to meat products. I feel that I, if given the opportunity during this project, would be able to come up with several possible solutions/ways to fix this problem all over the world, and I am looking forward to digging deeper into this topic.
Poster:
For my poster, I decided to reveal the negative effects of the animal agriculture industry on a small, personal level, which is the consumption of a hamburger. The words in the shadow of the hamburger include deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, ocean pollution, species extinction, and climate change. Additionally, the top left corner includes three statistics. It states, “Animal Agriculture is responsible for: 91% of Amazon destruction, 65% of nitrous oxide gas emissions, 55% of fresh water use.” The top right corner includes the url to the “Cowspiracy” website, which includes a lot of information on the negative effects of the animal agriculture industry.
