Through my seminar research, I was able to apply my knowledge of sleeves to the garment I made. Furthermore, I also payed attention to silhouette and the impact of my garment and the message it would carry.
Furthermore, as we discussed inclusivity in the seminar, it made me more aware of incorporating that into my design, pushing me to create a garment that would be wearable by anybody.
It was fascinating to learn how, in the more recent years, through the heavier usage of Zoom and digital meetings, the importance of the upper half of one’s outfit grew significantly. Sleeves, in particular, were highlighted, setting the entire mood for one’s outfit.
Throughout this semester, my view on fashion has changed significantly. When I first saw it as something solely aesthetic-based, I was fascinated to learn how much of a historical and cultural impact fashion has from the origin of the heels, to the interesting debate on wether fashion is art, my perspective has completely shifted.
