232 process

When starting this project, I took extensive notes, writing out my thoughts and ideas as a way to work through the concepts I was considering for this piece. I began by thinking about what abstraction does. To abstract something could mean to simplify it so much that it is obscured beyond recognition, or it could mean to accentuate essential elements, to generalize, thus lending something clarity. In the same way, memories and perceptions of the past change over time, influenced and indeed constructed by photographs: the intentions of one’s past actions can become clearer retrospectively while, at the same time,  accuracy of one’s recollections of past events recede into ambiguity.
