Note This is an interactive musical keyboard that teaches its user(s) a song by projecting different colored circles on the keyboard in a certain pattern.
My idea was to create an educational tool that would be a fun and interactive way to teach kids how to make music, starting with the very essentials – the music notes. I feel that it is very important for kids to know the basics of music, in order to at least understand and enjoy music, so this tool can be the first step to learning more about how music is created.
Initially I wanted to use leap motion to create a futuristic keyboard and I was inspired by this particular video:
Though after an in-class discussion, I decided to create something with MaKey MaKey, as it would be more precise. For the programming aspect of the project, I used Processing.
Here is a first sketch I did of the device:
Though on the sketch it says that the circles would be drawn with graphite, I found that aluminum foil is less dirty and works much better.
