Inspiration: The Met & Chinatown

Processed with VSCO with e4 preset

I went to the Heavenly Bodies Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art to gather inspiration for my project. The ornate, wide skirts captured my eye and inspired me to create something similar. With my theme of transportation, I started thinking about the difficulties of transportation of objects around the city. I also focused on transportation in the lives of people with disabilities.
In Chinatown there were many people lugging around bags on wheels and some who had canes and walkers. My favorite color is red and chinatown is full of it, along with beautiful designs and patterns.
But as I watched a man struggle with pushing around two massive flower carts I realized I wanted to develop a garment that captured the essence of a street vendor in New York City and design a garment suited for them.
