1970’s Pants- CTS 2

My pants were inspired by the Vietnam War. I wanted to use the buckles as a way to tell a story about how people struggled. Some key words i used to inspire my pants were rebellion, powerful, strength, survivor, flash, blast, sorrow, burn, torn, movement, rejection and compassion. The 1970s was all about being chic and comfortable. Big fabrics that came in during the 1970s were, jean, knits and wool. From the Vietnam war the students who were opposed got local schools to end dress codes, and curfews and recruiting more minority students. Fashion was a form of self-expression during the Vietnam War period. Many teenagers protested the war. Never before had American teenagers become so politically involved. This new sense of power was expressed through their clothing. Many older Americans dressed in the traditional fashion, while teenagers started to develop their own sense of style. Fashions in the 70’s were extremely flexible.  Most people dressed to identify with their particular lifestyle rather than fit in. Technology entered the picture in the 1970s as well and affected the way people spent their leisure time. Elasticized and drawstring waistlines helped people find the silhouettes they wanted. In 1976, the fashion separated into two very different directions. One was the Parisian peasant style, which used capes, turbans, rich fabrics, glowing colors, billowing skirts and puffy sleeves. The other was the clean-cut All-American look that borrowed styling from classic sportswear.
