Asking My Own Questions
Inquiry is the process of asking questions to collect information. Often inquiry leads to more inquiry. To work productively in the world we need to know how to observe, wonder, pose questions and collect research.
Wondering is often inspired by course readings and lectures. New ideas are found riding the subway or attending a performance. Or by asking new questions in everyday life.
Use the checklist below to confirm that inquiry is happening in your Learning Portfolio posts.
I collect material from multiple and diverse sources.
I describe, summarize, compare and synthesize my observations.
My observations grow over time.
My questions explore many lines of thought.
Questions lead to more questions.

Reflecting On My Work
Reflection is deep thinking. This thinking makes learning meaningful and leads to new learning. Reflection asks: What did I do? Why does it matter? What will I do now?
A LP post that demonstrates a procedure of working and a sequence of choices leads to reflection. Do not only record the steps of what happened, think about what happened!
Use the checklist below to confirm that reflection is happening on the LP Workspace.
Did I document “what happened” in words, photographs, sketches, sound?
Did I show that I moved through drafts or iterations of my ideas?
Did I ask myself questions about what happened- Why did I? What if?
Did I ask myself “why does this matter”?
Did I ask myself “what now”?

Selecting, organizing and presenting work on the LP Workspace tells a story. Documenting relationships between similar and dissimilar elements makes meaning.
How you present your work- the order of images, the use of titles, the framing of your ideas- is important. Devices such as media organization, labels, and placement communicate to the visitor.
Use the checklist below to confirm that your LP Workspace is well curated.

Connecting My Courses & World
As connections are built across courses and years of study at the New School, personal practice develops. This illusive “voice” is a unique mark, defined by the subjects studied, questions asked, work produced and causes championed. This sense of personal agency will grow into the professional world and life beyond the New School.
Personal voice does not need to be purposefully constructed on the LP Workspace- it will just happen! The accumulation of courses and years of study builds a map of education and personal passions. Shifts in perspective and growth are apparent. In the connections between courses and ideas we find the individual.
Use the checklist below to confirm that cross-course connections and real world connections are happening on the LP Workspace.
On my LP Workspace, I see posts that reflect personal interests and direction.
I see my interests expand and develop overtime.
I see how one course impacted another.
The tags on my LP Workspace show connections between courses, ideas and methods.
I post about my life outside of courses- extracurricular activity, internships, travel, lectures.
