Newport is a mixed use urban community in Jersey City, New Jersey, consisting of retail, residential, office, and entertainment facilities.
By 1621 the Dutch West India Company was organized to manage New Port.
In January 10. 1630, the community of Pavonia was established in New Port.
Pavonia was the first European settlement on the west bank of the Hudson River that was part of the seventeenth century province of New Netherland.
New Port was inhabited by the Lenape, a collection of tribes (later called Delaware Indian).
In 1986, Samuel J. LeFrak, an American real estate tycoon, and his firm, The LeFrak Organization began $10 billion project of developing New Port.
The development and population boomed so quickly because of the nearby offices and most importantly the convenient transportation to New York City.
After the community development, a lot of Indians have started to immigrate to New Port.
Most of the Indian residents were young professionals and starter families. It was because most Indian students couldn’t afford the rent here, and young professionals were paid pretty well in IT or finance jobs.
There are many Indian cuisines and cultural facilities in New Port to satisfy a lot of Indian residents.
Most residents in New Port take the PATH train to New York City to commute to to go to school because it only takes about 10 minutes to get to the first stop in New York City.
