“12993 Briar Wood Lane”

When we moved into our new house, we had a large rural property; a river and a great forest laid in the back. The first day we moved in, my dad, brother and I spent the night in the woods. We built a raft, made a campfire, and roasted marshmallows. We fished, and waded through the river; it was a lot of fun. My dad has always been someone who really enjoyed being outdoors. If it wasn’t for him taking us out there to enjoy ourselves, I don’t think I would appreciate nature and fresh air as much as I do now. Having genuine family time makes me miss being together with them. I remember seeing a lot of birds, snakes, frogs, toads, bugs and bats; I’ve grown to find creatures very pretty as a result. Through my maquette, I aim to create a beautiful, and lovely scene to try to capture my childhood. I wanted to use real life material that reminded me of my time there.

Here are some thumbnail sketches I did to quickly jot down some ideas.

And here are the five more developed sketches, I went with a combination of the second and third one. I combined the foreground and wanted to include the water.

I liked the first photograph the most. The detail on the stump really compelled me!

Here’s the final drawing once more,

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a full value drawing~
